Biography

Allison Wieder became inspired to practice law after she went on a service trip to Costa Rica where she worked at an orphanage.

The cruelty of the orphanage inspired her to action.

“None of the children were allowed to be picked up and touched," she said. " They had no toys to play with. They didn’t have clothes to wear in the rain. It was eye opening.”

After the trip, Wieder wanted to pursue a career that would allow her to be a champion for change and initially aspired to practice international law. She took a law class at the University of Oregon, loved it, and then started readying her resume for law school. Wieder worked in student government and helped students settle disputes through contracts and mediation. Through this work, she became inspired to practice law.

She decided to attend McGeorge because of its proximity to her home in Walnut Creek. “I knew that I wanted to be close to my family. I also knew that I wanted to go to a law school that was collaborative. I just fell in love with the vibe of the campus.”

About to enter her second year, Wieder says that her friendships have helped her battle the stress of law school.

“Your first year is very tough and you make close friends very fast because of the rigor of the program. That has probably been the best part of this experience besides the academics. Everyone is very supportive of you and my classmates all care about helping each other succeed.”

Over the summer, Wieder was able to work for the District Attorney’s office. “It was an amazing experience to be exposed to criminal law and also to learn about the subject in class.”

After law school, Wieder is open to where her career path takes her. “I just want to be doing something that I really enjoy and at an office where people are collaborative.”
