Bio

Aoibheann, pronounced "A-veen," is a Gaelic name. Her mother immigrated to the United States from Ireland.  Aoibheann was born and raised in Folsom, CA by her mom, dad, and stepmom.

She graduated from Humboldt State, majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science and Health Promotion. As a sophomore, she picked up rugby and was a 3-time Collegiate All-American for Humboldt State. She also captained the USA Eagles u23 National Team, which allowed her to travel the country and tour internationally.

After graduation, Aoibheann moved across the country to take a job at the University of Pittsburgh as a researcher for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Concussion Medicine Program, one of the nation's top concussion clinics.

"I did research and worked with patients and subjects from the NFL, MLB, NASCAR, the Military and youth athletes from all kinds of sports," she elaborated. "While working full-time, I continued to play rugby for one of the nation's top women's teams and won two back-to-back national championships with the Pittsburgh Angels."

After moving back to California, she began working at a law firm in Folsom, Donahue Davies.

"My motivation and inspiration as an attorney is my Dad, who recently retired as the City Attorney for the City of Folsom," she said. "The law firm I worked for encouraged me to pursue law school after working as an administrative assistant for a McGeorge alumni for a short time."

Aoibheann is heavily involved in the McGeorge community.

"I am the current SBA (Student Bar Association) Vice President and was SBA Secretary during my 2L year. I decided to run for election in the SBA, because I wanted to be involved in the decision making and shaping policies that affect the day to day student life to help students get the most out of their experience at McGeorge."

She also serves as the current President of GASA (Government Affairs Student Association).

"This year as President, I am planning on getting GASA more closely involved with the Capital Center of Law and Policy to take advantage of opportunities for members to be immerse themselves in the Capital community and the many resources the Capital Center has to offer."

She is also the outgoing President of the Federal Bar Association McGeorge Student Chapter.

"During my time as President the FBA McGeorge Student Chapter won the University of the Pacific, All-University Student Leadership Tiger Award which is presented annually by the Pacific Alumni Association to recognize a registered student organization that exhibits extraordinary school spirit, encourages student participation, and provides students with knowledge of Pacific's heritage, history, and traditions."

Much of Aoibheann's motivation to come to McGeorge stems from her family, who work in or around the government.

"I chose McGeorge because of the Capital Lawyering Program and its proximity to the Capital," she said. "While my focus is in municipal law and particularly in local government, the laws and policies that shape the governing of local agencies are formed right here in Sacramento, in and around the Capitol. Understanding how these laws are formed, influenced, and passed is a critical to an effective local government. I will be participating in the Legislative and Public Policy Clinic this year to continue to develop my understanding of the Legislative process."
