Undergraduate: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Bio

Ashley DeGuzman likes to collect certifications. She is licensed as a bartender, real estate agent and public notary. When she was only 23 years old, she bought her first home in Land Park. Now, at 25 years old, she owns a condo that she rents out near Sacramento State and hopes to grow her real estate profile in the coming years.

Enrolled in McGeorge's part-time J.D. program, DeGuzman works fulltime as a sales engineer for Celera Motion in Loomis. She graduated from Cal Poly in three years with a degree in biomedical engineering.

As a child, DeGuzman dreamed of becoming a doctor, but at Cal Poly, she realized that the occupation would not be a good fit for her.  She started thinking about pursuing law - drawn to the stability of the career path.

After college, she took a break from school and worked as an engineer and then in sales in the bay area before she moved back to Sacramento. DeGuzman decided to attend McGeorge because of its proximity to her home.

DeGuzman enjoys the close-knit community at McGeorge.

"I feel like I connect a lot more with law students than I do anyone else," she said. "You hang out with them each night and see the same people in every class and we are all friends now. We are all like a family."

When she graduates, she hopes to use her technical expertise to work as a patent lawyer.
