Professor Garcia Uhrig joined the Pacific McGeorge faculty with extensive experience in criminal law and procedure and federal habeas corpus. After a year clerking for the Honorable Harry Pregerson, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and two years as an associate with Hogan & Hartson in Washington, D.C., Professor Garcia Uhrig worked as an attorney-advisor with the Office of Legal Counsel (“OLC”), U.S. Department of Justice in Washington D.C. At OLC, she provided counsel to the White House and federal executive agencies on constitutional matters, in particular, issues implicating the Fourth Amendment, substantive due process, and Native American rights. In 1997, Professor Garcia Uhrig left OLC to join the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Los Angeles, CA, where she handled numerous federal felony trial and appellate cases for nearly five years. Most recently, she spent over four years in the Office of the Staff Attorneys, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, where she reviewed and presented to the court hundreds of requests for appeal in habeas corpus cases and provided training to new circuit judges in federal habeas.
