Full Bio

Professor Gretchen Franz worked as a research attorney and as a trial lawyer before entering academia. She joined the McGeorge faculty in 2000 after five years as a research attorney for the Alameda County and Marin County Superior Courts. After graduating from Washington and Lee University, she was a litigation associate for four years with the San Francisco firm Cooper, White & Cooper. In that capacity, she also worked closely with the Federal Public Defender's Office representing criminal defendants in federal court. Drawing upon her practical experience as a research attorney and litigator, she teaches lawyering skills to first- and second-year law students. Professor Franz is engaged in research and writing about experiential learning.
