Full Profile

Whether it is one person or millions of people, helping others is the cornerstone of what's driven Kim Bowman, '11, throughout his career. To be successful in his mission, Kim knew he needed a robust toolkit. "I chose my education purposefully so that I would have the knowledge and expertise to help the greatest number of people. Law is a tool that can be used in many ways, but I also studied business, gender, and aging. I think aging issues are the single biggest domestic challenge my generation will have to solve." In addition to his JD, Kim earned his MBA from Westminster College, a Master's in gerontology (aging) from the University of Southern California, and BAs in gender studies and political science from the University of Utah.

Kim chose McGeorge for its top-rated advocacy program. He was a member of the Mock Trial Team his second year and the Moot Court Team his third year. McGeorge's Moot Court Team is consistently ranked one of the best in the nation, and his work on the Team yields one of his favorite McGeorge accomplishments. "My teammates (Conness Thomas, '11, and Jeremy Enrich, '12) and I took second place in the nation at the American Bar Association's Moot Court Competition. We beat teams from 121 other law schools, which says a lot about McGeorge's quality of education and how well-prepared McGeorge students are for practice."

Kim's favorite McGeorge memory is meeting his wife, Nadia Bowman, '11. "We were in different sections our first year and didn't meet until the end of the year party. I thought I knew our entire class because I was the 1L SBA representative, so it surprised me that I hadn't met someone as beautiful and intelligent as Nadia. We started dating, fell in love, and were engaged by the time we graduated." In fact, Professor Ed Telfeyan, the faculty advisor for the Moot Court Team, officiated their wedding at Morris Chapel on the University of the Pacific's main campus in Stockton.

After McGeorge, the couple moved to Salt Lake City, where Kim was born and raised. He worked in private practice, focusing on business law, before starting his current position at the University of Utah. He is also a Captain in the United States Air Force Reserve and a member of the Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corp (JAG). Kim graduated first in his JAG class and was also the recipient of the American Bar Association's prestigious Outstanding Legal Assistance for Military Personnel Student Award.
