Manolo Morales is in his final semester of law school, graduating from McGeorge Law School after completing this coming fall semester. Attending as an evening student, he maintains a balance between both school and work. He has held many prestigious positions within various fields of law and has gained much insight from these experiences.
He is currently employed by Chubb Insurance Group, the largest publicly-traded property-casualty insurance company in the world. He is responsible for an eight-state Western Region. Working for the property-casualty insurance industry and going to law school at night has been the most rewarding experience for Manolo. He feels that his current position with Chubb Insurance Group is an ideal job and enjoys working as a Vice President for a global insurance company. His next career aspiration is to be a Senior Vice President or an Executive Vice President over Global Government Affairs, preferably for a financial services company.
Before his position with Chubb Insurance Group, Manolo was with the Personal Insurance Federation of California (PIFC), where he served as a Senior Legislative Advocate. Working with PIFC gave him the opportunity to build both a professional and personal connection with Clinic Adjunct Professor Rex Frazier, '00, who continues to be a mentor to Manolo. He affirms, "Professor Frazier was my inspiration to go to law school. He was the best boss I've ever had and even though I don't work for him anymore, I still consider him my mentor."
Before serving as a PIFC Senior Legislative Advocate, he was a lobbyist with Blue Shield of California and held various positions in the administration of former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, including Acting Director of the Office of the Insurance Advisor. Lobbying for Blue Shield of CA during the 2010 National Health Insurance Reform Debate was a challenging, eye-opening position that has helped Manolo persist in his goal to become a lawyer.
Since Manolo is already working in the legal field, he needed an evening program, because he wanted to continue to work throughout law school. Manolo exclaims, "there is no better school in California to get a hands-on education in Public Policy and Legislative decision-making."
Even with the demands of both school and work, Manolo is also active on campus, serving as Treasurer of the Latino Law Student Association (LLSA) for the past two years. Being born in Bucaramanga, Colombia, he feels compelled to support the Hispanic community at McGeorge. His drive to serve his school stems from his classmates, stating "the evening program is full of really impressive individuals that are already making a difference in various fields of law. I get energized by the dedicated group of people that make up my class."
