Naresh Virdi

Founder, Acquest Law, Inc.
Year Graduated: 2013

Profile

When Naresh Virdi entered McGeorge, he was a 35-year-old man in a hurry, eager to absorb all the law school had to offer and leap into his new career.

He didn't have to wait long. Upon graduating in 2013 with a certificate in immigration, health, and elder law, Virdi sifted through multiple job offers before taking a position with Blue Shield of California. In April 2014, he started his own law firm.

"I was more into getting anything and everything I could from law school and moving on as quickly as possible into my career," says Virdi.  "I didn't want to be a go-fer for a big firm, I wanted to get going."

Virdi opened Aspire Law, Inc. in Sacramento with three colleagues; the firm specialized in immigration law, business law, civil law, and elder law. He also founded Acquest Law, Inc..

Virdi credits his experience with McGeorge's Elder & Health Law Clinic and the school's expansive internship program with giving him the tools to succeed in short order.

With the Elder & Health Law Clinic, he conducted estate planning, managed administrative law cases and, most importantly, learned to interact with clients.

His internships included stints with the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office and the City of Roseville City Attorney's Office.

Virdi says the Roseville internship was particularly fruitful, because Roseville is a charter city.  As such, it is a quasi-independent legal entity, and is not fully integrated into state law, which gave Virdi an opportunity to dig deeply into municipal legal issues.

Virdi credits McGeorge's practice-ready credo for giving him the head start he sought.

"In the Elder Law Clinic, I was making wills and trusts, learning to understand clients' problems and needs-you are the lawyer, you're not just a student," says Virdi. "You get exposure at McGeorge that you're not going to get anywhere else. That's what gave me the confidence to open my own practice."
