Summary Bio

Nathan Barankin is well known within the Sacramento area. Currently he serves as the Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Kamala D. Harris. Previously he was the Chief Deputy Attorney General for the California Department of Justice. He has also previously served as Chief of Staff for Kamala D. Harris when she was California's Attorney General. Before this position, Barankin was the Communications Director and a judiciary consultant for Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg. Prior to this position, Barankin ran the Department of Communications under former Attorney General Bill Lockyer. He spent 10 years with Lockyer and then Jerry Brown while in the Attorney General's office.

"I gravitated toward public service because it is an incredibly rewarding job to have, where your singular objective each day is to try and make the law and policy work for the benefit of the general public," he says.

Prior to Lockyer's election as Attorney General, Barankin served as a policy advisor, etc. for then Senate President pro Tempore Bill Lockyer.  Before attending the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, Barankin attended UC Davis where he received a bachelor's in Political Science and History.
