Political money in elections is shaping up to be one of the hot topics in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Race, and Ann Ravel, Chair of the Federal Elections Commission (FEC), is at the center of the national dialogue. McGeorge students enjoyed a guest lecture by Ravel on Oct. 14, 2015 in the Municipal Innovation Seminar, taught by adjunct professors Gary Winuk and Nicolas Heidorn.

From March 2011 until her appointment to the FEC, Ravel served as Chair of the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC). Her visit was arranged by Professor Winuk, who served as chief of enforcement for the FPPC from 2009 to February of this year and worked with Ravel when she was the FPPC Chair.

During her guest appearance, Ravel gave update of recent FEC activity as well as a preview of the 2016 federal election season. She also met with a small group of McGeorge alumni and students at a reception organized by the Capital Center for Law & Policy.

"As the debate rages over money in politics before the 2016 Presidential Election, Chair Ravel's presentation on the workings of the Federal Election Commission and her call for citizen action to prompt changes in oversight at the federal level was thought-provoking and invigorating," said Capital Center Director Leslie Gielow Jacobs.
