Washoe County Chief Deputy District Attorney Dan Greco, ’86, was the special prosecutor at an impeachment trial that ended with Nevada Controller Kathy Augustine retaining her office.

The Nevada Senate selected Greco, who has handled 70 felony jury trials including 20 murder cases, because of his extensive experience and apolitical background.

State Senator Mark Amodei, ’83, presided over the impeachment trial as chairman of a “committee of the whole” made up of the entire Senate. He is a partner in the Carson City firm of Allison, McKenzie, Hartman, Soumbeniotis & Russell.

The trial ended on December 4 with Augustine acquitted on two of three charges involving use of state employees, computers, equipment and facilities to work on her re-election campaign. Greco argued that she should be sentenced to 60 days of unpaid leave, but she escaped with a censure after votes on two counts fell short of the two-thirds support needed for conviction.
