Kennedy Teaches In Salzburg

Anthony M. Kennedy, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, is co-teaching a course on Fundamental Rights in Europe and the United States in Pacific McGeorge’s Summer Salzburg Program this month for the 20th consecutive year.
On July 5, Justice Kennedy greeted each of 110 law students individually at the opening dinner of annual summer program. Included in the class are students from nine American law schools and seven foreign law schools.
Justice Kennedy, who has been a member of the Pacific McGeorge faculty since 1965, first taught the course in London in 1989 and enjoyed it so much he continues to teach it each summer after the program’s move to Salzburg the following year.
Professor Sionaidh Douglas-Scott of the United Kingdom’s Oxford University School of Law co-teaches the fundamental rights course. Other courses offered in the three-week (July 4-25, 2009) program include The International Business Lawyer and Comparative Criminal Procedure. Pacific McGeorge professor Michael Vitiello is teaching the latter course.
The Salzburg program is open to ABA-approved or state-accredited law school students who have completed one year of full-time or part-time study.
