McGeorge School of Law hosted its Legacy Gala at Sacramento's Memorial Auditorium on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016. The evening event celebrated community and alumni donors and their contribution to the McGeorge legacy.
Bob Buccola, '83, served as emcee for the evening program. McGeorge Dean Francis J. Mootz III welcomed the attendees and University of the Pacific President Pamela A. Eibeck gave remarks.
Videos were presented featuring alumni answering three questions: "Why Did You Choose McGeorge?", "Why Do You Support McGeorge?" and "What's Your Favorite Memory of McGeorge?".
United States Supreme Court Associate Justice Anthony M. Kennedy was able to attend the Gala during a brief visit to California. Justice Kennedy shared passionate and inspiring remarks at the podium as well.
"It was an honor to have Justice Kennedy share his reflections on the role of law and the importance of legal education," said Dean Mootz.
Justice Kennedy has taught in the McGeorge international law summer program in Salzburg, Austria for all but two of the past 25 years. He taught Constitutional Law as a member of the McGeorge faculty from 1965 until his appointment to the Supreme Court by President Reagan in 1988. He has since continued to teach the Salzburg summer program and he remains McGeorge's longest-serving active faculty member.
