McGeorge Welcomes New Students

McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific welcomed 219 new students at an Orientation Program held the week of Aug. 7, 2017. Classes for new and returning students began on Monday, Aug. 14, at the start of the school's 94th academic year.

First-Year Orientation

Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz welcomed the students and introduced speakers on Aug. 11 at the Dean's Welcome and Oath of Professionalism event during Orientation Week.  Dean Schwartz, a national leader in legal education reform, became the new McGeorge dean on July 1, 2017.   

Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Michael Colatrella introduced the McGeorge faculty, and McGeorge Alumni Association board president Megan Moore '08 and Student Bar Association President Rachel Tochterman also addressed the new students. Justice Ronald Robie '67, of the Third District Court of Appeal, administered the oath of professionalism to new students. Faculty held a reception for new students and families in the student center after the welcome event.  

Classes of 2020 and 2021

On the first day of classes, the incoming fall 2017 Juris Doctor (J.D.) Full-Time Day Division class consisted of 118 students, and the J.D. Part-Time Evening Division class included 37 students. The incoming 2017 class also included 17 Master of Laws (LL.M.) students, 9 Master of Science in Law (M.S.L.) students, 3 J.S.D. students, 6 Master of Public Policy (M.P.P.), 22 Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) students and 7 J.D. exchange students. McGeorge also welcomed 8 visiting scholars  to campus for the semester.

The median LSAT score for the J.D. class is 151, and the median GPA is 3.19. The new class is 58 percent female, with 46 percent of the class representing ethnic/racial diversity.
