The McGeorge Mock Trial program held an intensive weekend boot camp on campus on Aug. 18 to 20, 2017.

Friday evening kicked off with Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz addressing the group with words of encouragement and support, followed by a rousing speech by former Mock Trial star Jake Flesher '00. Then the current coaches took over, among them Keith Hill '98, Thien Ho '98, Jesse Saucedo '11, Teal Ericson '14, Andrea Morris '14 and Zachary Schultz, working all day Saturday on "soup to nuts" trial training sessions, including a segment on motion practice and evidence taught by Professors Cary Bricker, Director of the Mock Trial program and Jay Leach, Director of Trial Advocacy.

On Sunday, the 16 student team members were randomly paired, after which they tried a bank robbery case, acting as lawyers in one round and witnesses in the next.  Sunday evening the group gathered at the Bricker-Leach residence for some team bonding and barbecue.

"Everyone is looking forward to a terrific year of competitions around the country," said Professor Bricker.

The team will compete in the Mockingbird Challenge, Buffalo-Niagara Mock Trial Competition, National Civil Trial Competition and Judge Paul Joseph Kelly, Jr. Invitational Trial Competition during fall semester.
