Property: A Contemporary Approach, an interactive casebook written by Professors Ray Coletta and John Sprankling, has been published. It is the first American property casebook to be published in both hard copy and electronic formats.

The e-book is hyperlinked to cases, statutes, law review articles, and a variety of other resources in Westlaw, plus original photographs, charts, diagrams, and maps that will help students understand the materials. It’s the fourth volume in West’s Interactive Casebook Series, which will soon include an evidence book co-authored by Professor Fred Galves.

“Every student who purchases the book gets both the hard copy and the e-book for one price,” Sprankling said. “Most students may initially prefer the hard copy, but taken together it’s an interesting teaching vehicle.”

The e-book is stacked with visuals that make some of the cases, such as White v. Samsung Electronics and Midler v. Ford Motor, come alive. If the names sound familiar, it’s because those are intellectual property law cases involving celebrities Vanna White and Bette Midler.

Coletta and Sprankling began work on the book nearly two years ago. Sprankling even spent part of a summer vacation traveling the country to take photographs used in the book. He won’t be having as much fun this summer – he and Coletta must work on the teacher’s manual to accompany the new book.
