Five students from the School of Law and Public Service were recently recognized in two separate ceremonies hosted by the Sacramento Bar Association and the Sacramento Federal Bar Association.

Diliah Barber, Lori Vang, and David Carlson were recognized on May 2nd as winners in the Sacramento Bar Association's Law Day contest. Each entered either a poster or essay that focused on the right to trial by jury, this year's Law Day theme. Lori Vang's poster took first place, Delilah Barber's poster took second place, and David Carlson's essay took first place in the contest (to view their posters and essay visit the Sacramento Superior Court Website and click on Law Day Contest http://www.saccourt.com/docs/Law%20Day.asp ).

The students were recognized at a special lunch-time ceremony at the Firehouse Restaurant in Old Sacramento by local judges and attorneys, and Joel Millband, Vice President of the California Bar Association. During his keynote speech, Mr. Millband, who visited Sacramento High School earlier in the day, claimed that amazing things were happening at Sac High and ".if you haven't visited Sac High yet, you should."

On May 4th, Tiffany Jones and David Carlson from the School of Law and Public Service also received awards from the Sacramento Federal Bar Association's annual essay contest known as Operation Protect and Defend, which took place at the Sterling Hotel's Ballroom. This year's theme was Japanese internment and constitutional rights during times of war. Out of more than three hundred essays entered by seniors from all over the Sacramento Region, David Carlson won a $250 notable essay award and Tiffany Jones won the most coveted "Lawyers Choice" award with a $500 cash prize. David Carlson will be attending UCLA and Tiffany Jones will be attending Cornell.
