Elder & Health Law Clinic Services
The Pacific McGeorge Elder & Health Law Clinic provides free legal assistance to low income Sacramento County seniors 60 years of age and older. Low-income is defined as a monthly income level at or below 125% of the federal poverty level or persons who are eligible for supplemental security income or free services under the Older Americans Act.
Under the supervision of a licensed attorney, Clinical students provide legal advice and representation to clients on a variety of legal issues including:
- Simple Wills and Trusts
- Advance Health Care Directives
- Financial Powers of Attorney
- Social Security
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Nursing Home Residents' Rights
- Medicare and Medi-Cal
- In Home Supportive Services (IHSS)
- Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation
- Consumer Issues and Fraud
The Elder & Health Law Clinic cannot accept all cases. Whether your case is accepted is based on a number of factors including the Clinic's ability to take on new cases, whether you meet the eligibility requirements, and whether the type of legal matter is suitable for the educational purposes and resources of the Clinic. We begin accepting potential cases just prior to the start of fall and spring semesters. Acceptance of potential cases for fall 2013 will begin July 22, 2013. We begin accepting potential cases for spring semester typically in mid-December. We continue taking cases the few months of each semester until our caseload is full. During the summer we take a very limited number of urgent matters. Please contact us at 916.340.6080 for information.
Please note we do not answer legal questions via email or phone. If you need legal help, you must start with an intake. If you have questions about our services, please call us. If you need urgent assistance, to locate an attorney, please contact the Sacramento County Lawyer Referral Service at 916.564.6707 or visit http://www.sacbarlawyer.org/.
