Vanessa Adame

Class of 2018 (MPP)

Hometown: Folsom, California
Undergraduate: UC Davis
Major: Political science and psychology

From Folsom, Vanessa Adame is of African American and Mexican American heritage and grew up in a family passionate about education, culture and exploration. "My mixed heritage gives me the gift of seeing beauty in other cultures."

Adame plays the harp, boulders, hikes, plays softball and indulges in the occasional sheep shearing session with her boyfriend who is an animal science major at California State University, Chico.

Since Adame was little, she dreamed of working as a lawyer or a judge, but also had a knack for numbers. In college, she became infatuated with her statistics courses and loved the task of computing.

"I heard about the master of public policy program from my boyfriend who heard about it on NPR. After researching the program, I knew it was right for me. The program combines two of my main interests: the law and numbers."

She loves the concentrations that McGeorge offers to its MPP students. "The concentrations that are offered are fascinating and applicable to future policy across the United States and throughout all tiers of the government."

Adame's concentration is in water policy and her dream is to start her own consulting firm focused on water, environmental and agricultural policy analysis.

"The professors and staff are extremely supportive and interactive with the students, which makes it a unique and warm community. This is something that everyone notices even before classes start on orientation day."

A year into her MPP program, Adame has been amazed by the level of professionalism that she and her peers have been held to as graduate students - the experience has strengthened her enthusiasm and confidence about her chosen career path in policy.

"The best thing about attending McGeorge has been how engaging the professors and staff are with the students. They don't just want you to graduate with a degree, they want you to be successful beyond the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law."
